Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary
How Does Your Allergy Grow?
That's right. The second line used to read "How does your GARDEN grow?"
A more appropriate question is becoming: "How does your ALLERGY grow?".
According to information released in December, 1999 by the American College
of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology, the number of people suffering from allergies
has grown from 12 to 38 percent in a thirty year period. According to Thomas
Ogren who has spent the last 11 years studying allergies, allergic asthma
has now become the number one chronic childhood disease in America.
What are Mary and the 20 million hay fever sufferers in the United States to
Well, they could all stay inside and hope they aren't allergic to something
going through the air conditioner. They could take medication, but, then all
medications have side effects.
Why do millions suffer and millions seem totally unaffected? First,
it helps to understand what allergies are. Allergic reactions occur when the
body perceives allergens (whatever it is that they are reacting to) as poison.
When the body malfunctions and registers pollen, etc. as toxic, the immune system
secretes a defense chemical called histamine. When histamine is released, the
lining of the nose begins to swell. Symptoms may include watery, itchy eyes,
runny nose, sneezing, swelling of the sinuses causing congestion, and heavy
Why are some people prone to pollen allergies? The pollen isn't really
poison; the immune system of the allergy sufferer just "thinks" it
is toxic. Why? Maybe the immune system is the cause. Lack of normal nerve transmission
from the brain through the immune system may cause it to "think" wrong.
The nerve pathways that carry communications to and from the brain may not be
functioning correctly. One cause for malfunction of these nerve pathways to
the immune system is called a vertebral subluxation
A vertebral subluxation is where the spinal vertebrae are misaligned or fixated
and not in normal position. The delicate nerves which run through channels in
the spinal column can become irritated or compressed and unable to communicate
information correctly. This theory explains why the immune system reads pollen
as poison. The information isn't being transmitted correctly.
Fix the misaligned spine and see if this doesn't fix the allergic reactions
that are causing allergy sufferers so much pain and trouble. Chiropractors specialize
in this. It would be our pleasure to evaluate the spines of you and any
other allergic person you know. Call us, today, for an appointment. Chiropractic
may just get you out in the garden again.
